Samsung Launches Galaxy Card to Compete with Apple Card
Samsung introduces the Galaxy Card, a credit card offering cash rewards. An interesting alternative to the Apple Card.
A New Competitor in the Market
Samsung recently announced the launch of its first credit card in the United States, the Samsung Galaxy Card. This product was developed in partnership with Barclays and aims to directly compete with Apple's Apple Card.
Features of the Galaxy Card
The Galaxy Card functions like a standard Visa card, while offering special financing options for Galaxy devices purchased directly from Samsung. Additionally, it has no annual fees.
Cardholders can earn cash rewards of up to 5% on purchases made online or in-store at Samsung. Here's an overview of the rewards:
- 5% on Samsung purchases
- 3% on purchases via Samsung Wallet
- 2% on streaming services like Netflix or Spotify
- 1% on other purchases
In comparison, the Apple Card offers 3% cashback on Apple purchases and with certain partners, 2% with Apple Pay, and 1% on other purchases. The Galaxy Card thus positions itself with higher cashback rates across several categories.
Additional Benefits
Moreover, new users of the Galaxy Card can earn up to $200 in cashback rewards after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days of opening their account. Additionally, a 20% discount is offered on the Samsung VIP Advantage subscription.
Integration with Samsung Wallet
The Galaxy Card is integrated with Samsung Wallet, the app that also allows account management as well as storage of passes, IDs, and digital keys, similar to Apple Wallet. This provides a seamless user experience for cardholders.
Availability and Design
Users can apply for the Galaxy Card online or in Samsung stores starting July 22. The physical card, which is made of black metal, will be sent after approval of the application, offering a sleek and modern design, in contrast to the white titanium version of the Apple Card.
